Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she's struggling to conceal her power, and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.

Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town's oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.

In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything.

My Review:

What an intriguing read! I watched the movie Beautiful Creatures a couple of weeks ago and on my trip to Washington D.C., I downloaded the book to my kindle. I’ve never really been into the paranormal genre, so this was very new to me.

I was so immersed in this read. Ethan was a lovable character and he and I are so much alike when it comes to a small town life and our thoughts about it. He was a refreshing character, unlike so many of the other characters I have been reading about. I am so used to reading from a girl’s point of view that a boy’s point of view was a fresh approach and made the read that much more enjoyable.

Honestly, this was such a great story and I am so glad I got the chance to read it. I look forward to reading the rest of the series!
Watch Out For: Magic, kissing, supernatural battles, drinking, mild cussing, and smoking.
