The year is 1945. Claire Randall, a former combat nurse, is just back from the war and reunited with her husband on a second honeymoon when she walks through a standing stone in one of the ancient circles that dot the British Isles. Suddenly she is a Sassenach—an “outlander”—in a Scotland torn by war and raiding border clans in the year of Our Lord...1743.

Hurled back in time by forces she cannot understand, Claire is catapulted into the intrigues of lairds and spies that may threaten her life, and shatter her heart. For here James Fraser, a gallant young Scots warrior, shows her a love so absolute that Claire becomes a woman torn between fidelity and desire—and between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.

My Review:

I love the Outlander Series! I am on book four currently. I seriously can’t get enough out of this series. My aunt recommended this to me years ago because we both have a thing for Scotland and Scottish accents. I am a faithful watcher of the TV show as well, but fair warning, there is a ton of graphic violence and sex scenes in the TV show.

This is an intense period drama and its pretty long, but if you enjoy it as much as I do, then it goes by fast.  There is quite a bit of information in the text. It deals with the Bonnie Prince Charlie uprising, the American colonies, and the Revolution. This not just a romance novel! It is full of medical treatments, what the Scottish people ate, and the realities of what people had suffered during that time. There is such a sense of detail in this book! The descriptions really capture the reader’s attention, wether it is on the plants, people, or scenery. The writer also really displays strong insights in trust and relationships. The writer really gives her characters  rich and deep personalities.

Claire is independent, strong-minded, caring, and noble.  She definitely has a sharp tongue when it comes to men telling her what to do. It makes the story so much more entertaining when she starts chewing them out!

Jamie, is a freaking beautiful beast of a man! He has so much purity about him and a heart of good. A well-rounded good guy who is very much an alpha male because of his leadership skills. He is tender, loyal, and devoted. He is one of my favorite fictional characters out there.

Overall, I love this series! If you like Highlander novels, then you will love this one!

Watch Out For: Language, sexual content, violence, war, and drinking.
