A lovely schoolteacher faces the frontier with the firm resolve to never marry a rowdy adventurer of the West. Canadian West book 1.

My Review:

I don’t know if any of you have seen the Hallmark TV show When Calls the Heart? I saw it on Netflix and became addicted. I have finished all three seasons multiple times and I have even seen the movie! Really good western romance stuff.

Janette Oke is a very talented writer. She has written quite a few books that have become Hallmark Movies, like the movie Love Comes Softly, Love Enduring Promise, etc…

This book is a short read, nothing is unpredictable, and the settings and characters are charming and quite beloved. I thought that the plot flowed very well. The life of a teacher during this western period is fascinating and Elizabeth is so likable. She is a fancy, tea-drinking, and booker-reader. She has a great voice and is very independent. It was funny from a country girl’s perspective watching Elizabeth struggling with roughin’ it out in the wild. Facing mice and coyotes.

Overall, a fun little western read! I definitely like the TV series better!

Watch Out For: Minor cussing, mentioning of smoking and drinking, kissing, indian scalping, and spirtiual content (scriptures, church, prayers, etc..)
