When Marilla Cuthbert's brother, Matthew, returns home to Green Gables with a chatty redheaded orphan girl, Marilla exclaims, "But we asked for a boy. We have no use for a girl." It's not long, though, before the Cuthberts can't imagine how they could ever do without young Anne of Green Gables--but not for the original reasons they sought an orphan. Somewhere between the time Anne "confesses" to losing Marilla's amethyst pin (which she never took) in hopes of being allowed to go to a picnic, and when Anne accidentally dyes her hated carrot-red hair green, Marilla says to Matthew, "One thing's for certain, no house that Anne's in will ever be dull." And no book that she's in will be, either.

My Review:
Anne spelled with an E is one hysterical character! Oh man! She seriously cracks me up with her imagination and personality. She made me laugh through the whole book. She truly is a kindred spirit. As Anne would say, “Kindred spirits are not so scarce as I used to think. It’s splendid to find out there are so many of them in the world.” She is one of the most delightful characters ever writing in my opinion. She makes plenty of mistakes, just like we do, but her mistakes are funny and makes you see the value in learning from each of them, laughing at them, and then moving on. She approaches life enthusiastically, despite being an orphan.
The themes in this book are amazing. They focus on friendship and building relationships with those around you. Anne uses a bold and straight forward approach, which is something that I envy. Anne is such a bold female character who refuses to be categorized. Which is something that all of us must do. Be our true authentic selves.
L.M Montogomery’s writing style is very refreshing and worthwhile. When reading it, I found that the within the chapters it felt like I was seeing a friend. Seeing the appreciation for life’s loveliness made me long to live in the moment and to find myself.
This book is a classic and definitely worth reading!
